Please introduce yourself to the Plus Mag audience?
I am Farshad Nazemi. I have a master’s degree in industrial management and have been working in the field of information technology for about 20 years and am currently serving you as the Deputy Director of Information Technology Governance
Tell us about your experiences in your areas of responsibility?
I think we should first get acquainted with the concept of IT governance. Perhaps the first question is what is the difference between IT management and IT governance? The management field focuses on the level of effective and efficient IT services and products and the management of its activities. However, IT governance is broader; while it deals with participating in the provision of business activities and performance, it focuses on the transfer and stabilization of information technology to face the future challenges of the organization’s business. Almost all organizations are significantly dependent on technology. The dependence on technology and its importance means that organizations need to think carefully about their investment in this area, as well as the risks associated with its use. Decisions regarding IT spending are no longer left to IT specialists, these decisions are now made at the highest levels of leadership. This is where the issue of IT governance comes in. Essentially, IT governance provides a structure for aligning IT strategy with business strategy. In other words, IT governance refers to a set of processes, structures, and strategies used to optimally manage and control IT in an organization and can facilitate the management of IT resources and contribute to the long-term success of the business.
My experience in this field, and given my type of activity and expertise in process analysis and implementation of IT systems, has enhanced my problem-solving skills, and of course, my skills in project management and the use of new technologies have helped me to be very careful in implementing and controlling projects. My best and strongest experience in this field has been setting up the MES system (Manufacturing Execution System) in automobile production lines in order to control, monitor, and track all production processes and obtain Renault Group vehicle production codes (VEP) to improve the process and customer satisfaction.
What do you think is the most important task of the Vice President of Technology Governance?
Determining the IT strategy: which must be aligned with the overall strategies of the organization.
IT risk management: identifying, assessing, and managing security and operational risks related to IT. Such as data protection, network security, and access management, for example, implementing an ISMS standard
Compliance with laws and regulations: Ensuring that IT activities comply with relevant laws and regulations (such as privacy protection, security regulations, and financial regulations).
IT project management: Overseeing the implementation of IT projects, from requirements analysis to final implementation.
IT operations management: Ensuring the effective and sustainable performance of IT systems and services in the organization.
Communication with senior management: Reporting to senior management on IT performance and its impact on business strategies.
What is your suggestion for achieving significant progress in the infrastructure and implementation of communication technology?
The field of IT has had a significant impact on our lives. To achieve progress in this area, the following steps can be taken:
Getting acquainted with new technologies
Continuous training and learning
Work experience and practical projects
Connecting with other people in the IT field
What do you consider important to increase system efficiency and improve the processes of communication technology projects?
Basically, to succeed in communication technology projects in any organization, it must have the support of the board of directors or senior management before anything
so that the first step can be taken.
The remaining steps are easier and more achievable, which include:
Investing in new and up-to-date technologies that accelerate the improvement of business processes.
Implementing optimal processes by analyzing and improving project processes
Using project management tools
Training and developing skills
Continuous improvement, which should be carried out as a continuous improvement process with regular reviews.
Compliance with international standards and frameworks
Do you have any suggestions for Mammut Group in the field of improving the process of IT projects?
If I were to say in one sentence, “Integrating information systems and infrastructure should be our goal”
This means that different systems are connected in such a way that data flows seamlessly between them. The goal of information system integration is to ensure that different systems can work efficiently and effectively with each other to achieve a common goal, and of course the feedback from such systems is better decision-making at all levels, especially senior management, cost savings, and improved colleagues’ experience of working in these systems.
What is your advice for resolving conflicts in systems, especially in projects?
Managing conflict in projects is an essential skill for project managers. Conflicts in teams and in the workplace are inevitable, but they can be managed with appropriate methods. In general, conflict management requires the ability to identify, negotiate and implement appropriate solutions, but some solutions are as follows:
1. Collaborative conflict management method: In this method, teams discuss the disputes with each other and come up with a collective solution. This method is time-consuming, but the results are
2. Problem-solving conflict management method: In this method, we consider the conflict as a problem and seek to solve it. This method is appropriate when the relationship between the parties is important.
3. Avoidance conflict management method: In this method, we ignore or escape the conflict. This method is appropriate when maintaining the relationship between the parties is a priority.
4. Compromise conflict management method: In this method, the parties reach an agreement that both parties are satisfied with. This method is appropriate when there is a need to balance interests.
5. Coercive conflict management: In this method, one party forces the other party to make a decision. This method is appropriate when the decision is urgent and necessary.
Final Words
We know that the pace of change in the field of information technology is very high and the digital landscape is rapidly evolving, which increases the workload and the needs of Mammut Group are also increasing, especially since Mammut Digital is a fledgling organization. Therefore, the organization must prioritize the development and implementation of strong governance and compliance strategies to ensure compliance with regulations and the protection of sensitive information. I hope that by working together, we can bring Mammut Group to its destination and Mammut Digital Company will soon shine as a brand in this field in Iran.
