First, as a matter of courtesy and gratitude, we should send our condolences to the late Engineer Behrouz Ferdows, the founder of Mammut Company, and thank and gratitude to the respected Ferdows family for maintaining and developing the prestigious Mammut Company as one of the largest economic enterprises and entrepreneurs in Iran.
Please introduce yourself.
Amir Afshari, Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, Master of Industrial Engineering with 20 years of executive experience in automotive companies and one year and seven months of experience in Mammut Company, which I am at your service.
How do you see the programs implemented in recent years in the Mammut World Complex?
I consider it my duty to express special thanks and appreciation to all the hardworking colleagues of Mammut Company at all levels since its establishment, who have made a very important contribution to the goals of this company with their efforts. Fortunately, my colleagues are all honorable and conscientious people, and I have always enjoyed working with them.
Considering the goals set for the development of product exports and increasing the quality and quantity of all products in Mammut Company, at the beginning of the arrival, there was an urgent need to overhaul or update the equipment of the production halls and manufacture fixtures of the chassis halls and change the approach to the structure of the engineering units, production planning and quality, which seemed necessary. For all these goals, a written program was designed and is being implemented. In addition, the company’s huge paint hall located in halls 3 and 4 had to reach the commissioning stage. With the cooperation of Mammut Companies and our dear colleagues, the first phase, which is the commissioning of the preparation and ED section, was commissioned. In the following stages, the powder coating section and then the transfer to the assembly hall and the completion of the production chain should be carried out, which is being commissioned with great seriousness.
Launching an up-to-date central welding skills school, more than 90% of which has been designed and implemented, and its goal is to train new recruits in the first phase and then provide periodic training for working colleagues to ensure that their skills in welding skills do not decline.
One of the major issues is the production of products with low repeatability, which must be improved by making fixtures for body shops, which of course takes time and must be done step by step, and before that, parts must be produced in the parts shops with all engineering standards, which requires an overhaul of the equipment in these shops, which is being implemented with diligence. Standardization of all production processes using standardization and standard operation sheets, and for non-production processes using the development of operating instructions for all areas, which is being completed with full force. Giving sufficient authority to the deputies and managers of all areas, making them performance-oriented, controlling the performance of all areas with key performance indicators, and reviving the maintenance and repair planning unit in an operational manner have been just a few of the activities of the great team of Mammut World during this period.
Who do you think are our biggest competitors? How do we differentiate ourselves from them?
In terms of competitors in Mammut Trailer, I do not consider myself a domestic competitor for the great Mammut Company, but other companies are growing daily, and I consider Mammut’s competitors to be large foreign companies such as Turkey’s Tiresan and European companies Schmitz. Our plan to compete with them is to raise the quality level by using trained and committed personnel, raise the level of engineering and planning, and also launch a new paint salon, and create a distinction in the quality of products and adhere to the delivery time of the orders of the company’s esteemed customers. The new paint shop, which is the first ED trailer paint shop in the Middle East, will be a major differentiator for our products.
What do you think is the biggest challenge the industry will face in the next 5 years?
The most important challenge for the country will be the challenge of human resources shortage and the huge energy challenge, for which there are different solutions. For the human resources challenge, I think the solution is to attract young and energetic workers, and for the energy challenge, the construction of a renewable power plant, which is hopefully being launched. The liquidity challenge is also another major challenge, of which we can mention the challenge of selling quality products, and the solution is to expand sales in the field of exports to target countries.
What do you think are the behavioral characteristics of a good leader?
In my opinion, the characteristic of a good leader, not a good manager who only thinks about achieving goals at all costs, is to bring all the units of the organization and their people together by managing them with their hearts, explaining the goals, listening to their concerns, and solving the problems of the organization and the people on a continuous basis. Be sure that all the people of an organization will give their all to the organization when they realize their importance.
What is the most important challenge you have faced in your career? How did you overcome it and what did you learn from it?
My most important challenge was to strengthen decision-making and teamwork in some areas of the organization, which was largely resolved by reorganizing some areas and allowing the organization’s decision-makers to make decisions in their own areas. Of course, at the beginning of the work, it happened through consultation with each other, but now most decisions are made correctly by the management areas themselves with continuous supervision.
How do you prefer to communicate with your team to delegate their responsibilities to them?
Communicating with your team is not possible in a one-sided manner, so it must happen through constructive interaction and effective teamwork.
Creating a united and sympathetic team is very important. In my opinion, in this period of time, considering the unbridled growth of inflation in the country, financial issues are no longer the only solution because no organization is able to increase salaries in comparison to inflationary conditions, and with the management method of leather whip, force, etc., things will not be done properly. A good and successful coach needs players who are supportive, knowledgeable, and sympathetic to advance the goals of the organization and live like a family that enjoys being together.
What is your biggest challenge in managing employees?
The biggest challenge right now is maintaining the peace of the organization while the market situation is very unstable and fragile. This uncertainty should not be transferred to the employees and we must successfully get through this period by finding practical solutions as always.
